The FINA World Championships are the World Championships for aquatic sports including diving, swimming, open water swimming, synchronized swimming and water polo.
The Championships are conducted by FINA and the pool swimming events are contested in a 50 m, or "long course", pool.
The FINA World Championship event was first held in 1973 and the event is now held every 2 years.
From 1978 to 1998, the World Championships were held every four years, in the even years between the Summer Olympic years.

Fiji Swimming - 2-swimmer team for the 2010 Short Course Worlds in Dubai
FIJI-Fiji Swimming has named a 2-swimmer team for the 2010 Short Course Worlds in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Swimming at the December meet will be Cheyenne Rova and Meli Malani. Eugene Panuve will serve as coach for the trip.
French pick 21 for Short Course Worlds
FRANCE--The French Swimming Federation, Fédération Française de Natation
(FFN), has announced a 21-swimmer team for the 2010 Short Course Worlds
in Dubai, United Arab Emirates in December.
SC Worlds 2010 team is:
Males (14): Yannick Agnel, Alain Bernard, Frédérick Bousquet, Hugues
Duboscq, Fabien Gilot, Antton Haramboure, Camille Lacourt, Clément
Lefert, Amaury Leveaux, William Meynard, Sébastien Rouault, Benjamin
Stasiulis, Boris Steimetz and Jérémy Stravius.
Coaches: Denis Auguin, Frédéric Barale, Romain Barnier, Michel Chretien,
Lionel Horter, Richard Martinez, Christos Paparrodopoulos, Fabrice

also be a part of the team.
37 US swimmers for World Short Course Championships
USA Swimming earlier this week announced a 37-swimmer team for the 2010 Short Course World Championships in December in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Head Coaches for the team will be: Eddie Reese (men) and Teri McKeever (women). Team members are:

The World Short Course Championships will be held at the Dubai Aquatic centre, which is claimed to be the world’s best indoor aquatic facility. The centre is a two-tier golden teardrop-shaped facility and has an Olympic standard 50-metre pool along with another 50-metre pool with a moveable floor.

FINA announces re-bidding process for 2013 Worlds
LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND--FINA has announced the re-bidding process for the
2013 World Championships. Originally, the 2013 Worlds were awarded to
Dubai, United Arab Emirates a year ago; however, two months ago (May
2010), FINA announced that Dubai had stepped down as host and a new host
would be sought.
The new bidding process for the 2013 World Championships will begin with
a briefing by FINA this Thursday (July 22) for any national
federations/cities interested in bidding. The host for the 2013 Worlds
will be selected by the FINA Bureau at a meeting coinciding with the
2010 FINA World Aquatics Convention in Punta del Este, Uruguay,
September 27-29.
ROME, ITALY--At the FINA Bureau meeting on Saturday (July 18), Dubai, United Arab Emirates was selected at the host of the 2013 World Championships. Dubia was selected over Hamburg, Germany and Moscow, Russia to host the 15th edition of Worlds. www.fina.org
In Dubai-related news, an article describing the pool in Dubai that will host the 10th biennial Fina World Short Course Swimming Championships has been posted online at the link below. The facility is currently under construction and expected to be completed by early next year.
