Australian Swimming Rankings - How it Works
Every major swim meet in Australia and any swim meets held overseas with Australians competing at it, have their results entered into a database. The database collates all the swimmers results and leads to the production of rankings for each stroke and distance in both long course (events held in 50m pools) and Short Course (events held in 25m pools).
Australian Long Course
The first series of rankings in the Australian Swimming Rankings table is Australian Long Course. These rankings list the best times swum in a 50m pool since the beginning of the season. The categories are Open Men and Women (Top 25) and Age Group Boys and Girls (Top 25). Ages 13/U years, 14 years, 15 years, 16 years and 17-18 years.

FINA Point Score and Australian Age Points
The FINA Points table below assigns point values to swimming performances, more points for world class performances typically 1000 or more and fewer points for slower performances.
The base times are defined each year, based on the latest World Record approved by FINA. For short course metres (SCM) the base times are defined with the cut of date of August 31st. For long course (LCM) the base times are defined at the end of the year (December 31st).
FINA Points Formula
A description, how the FINA Points are calculated and when the base times are updated.
Multi-Class point score (MCPS)
The MCPS has been developed to provide a simplified way for swimmers and coaches to measure and compare performances.
The 2010 MCPS replaces both the DIPS and MDST and will be used by Swimming Australia for JX, YPS, Paralympic Program Squad selection and Multi-Class events, providing a clearer path for classified swimmers.
